Adding Snapseed to Lightroom and Aperture as an External Editor

How to add Snapseed to Lightroom as an External Editor

  • While Lightroom is open, for Windows click Edit> Preferences OR for Macintosh click Lightroom > Preferences.
  • Click on the “External Editing” tab at the top of preferences.

  • Midway down on the right click on the”Choose” button and locate the Snapseed file. Typically it can be found at either, C:\Program Files (x86)\Nik Software\Snapseed\Snapseed.exe, OR Macintosh HD : Applications : Snapseed
  • Once located, select the program or application file as indicated above and click “Open/Choose”.

  • Set the options to your preference. For best results, set File Format to “TIFF”, Color Space to ProPhoto RGB (or your preferred color profile), Bit Depth to 16-bit, Resolution to240, and Compress to None.
  • Under Preset click the drop down selector and choose, “Save Current Settings as New Preset” from the list.

  • Type in the name “Snapseed” and click Create.

  • Close preferences by clicking OK. Snapseed should now be an option when you click Photo> Edit in, or Right Click and select Edit In> Snapseed.

How to add Snapseed to Aperture as an External Editor:

  • While Aperture is open, select Aperture > Preferences

  • In the upper tabs of the Preferences window, select Export

  • Click on the Choose button in the upper right hand corner
  • Navigate to your Applications folder, and select Snapseed

  • Make sure the External Editor File Format is under Tiff (8 or 16bit), and exit out of the Preferences menu
  • You will now be able to click on the menu Photos > Edit with Snapseed… or right click on the photo to select Edit with Snapseed… in order to open Snapseed
